Physical Activity and Diabetes
Exercise enhances insulin sensitivity in people with diabetes.
- It also helps to lower blood sugar
- and reduce the risk of heart disease and nerve damage,
- in addition to controlling blood pressure,
- lowering LDL cholesterol,
- and aiding in better sleep and mood.
The American Diabetes Association recommends 150 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic activity per week, spread out over at least 3 days per week, with no more than 2 consecutive days without activity for most adults with type 1 or 2 diabetes.
